Being our own limits...

We are our own measuring sticks when you think about it. There's nothing that we can't at least attempt to do if we set out to do them. Literally, we can do whatever our heart desires. We can become anything that we want to be. There are no limits except how far you are willing to go. However, from my own personal experience and from making observations on others, there are three things that keep us from doing just that: Lack of motivation, lack of  determination, and fear.

The biggest road block for us is fear. Fear comes from wounds that have resulted from past experiences, past hurts, or anxiety of the unknown. We think that we can't do something because we believe that we are unable to do them (subconsciously or consciously). In fact, what we're really doing is tricking ourselves in believing that we are powerless and that we can not change our lives or our current situations. In a few cases, life will throw certain limitations on people but if the will to do something is there, that can not be taken away no matter how evident one's reality may be. The human spirit is something that can not be extracted, deleted, crushed, or destroyed in any way. It can only be forgotten or unrecognized. If the human spirit is there, it's just there.

One thing that bothers me the most is that even though God has given us so much inner power, a lot of us fail to utilize it. It may be due to a sense of underestimating oneself. It may be due to being content. But if someone gave me an unlimited amount of money to squander, I'm not just going to spend $10 or $20, I'm going to spend as much money as I want until I get tired or have reached my personal level of satisfaction. It's the same kind of power that God gives us; to reach our highest potential without worrying about if we're going to run out of inner greatness. God gives us that power but how we use it makes all the difference in the world. That to me, is free will.

Of course, I am the most guilty of all individuals who fail to cultivate and use their inner greatness. This is something that I am slowly, but currently working on within myself. Another great thing about navigating through life is that God gives us the opportunity to change what we can change and do what we can do. I believe that this is God's reminder to us that we can change our destiny and become the individuals that we were created to be...if we only tried adhere to the small glimmer of light that's within all of us.
